Bats
“I’m fascinated by bats. They’re not frightened of humans, they’re intelligent and have highly sophisticated hearing and memory capabilities and they have the ability to recover from illness and injury remarkably well.
“Most people had known bats when they were younger but they had gradually disappeared and there were very few roosts in the area I lived in near Glasgow. Because I wanted to see one so much I read more and found out more, and eventually saw my first bat in Edinburgh when I was 21.
“But their lives are still very much a mystery, and we only really see them when they’re least active. Theirs is an unseen world – we co-exist but rarely meet.”
